Invisalign® Teen FAQ

Your Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign Teen

Bronsky Orthodontics offers Invisalign Teen in the Upper East Side and Tribeca area. Here are some answers to your most frequently asked questions.

When you visit your Tribeca orthodontist for Invisalign Teen, the aligner trays might look just like regular Invisalign at first as both treatments use primarily the same technology. The difference is the teen model has a blue dot that fades away when the patient wears their Invisalign Teen aligners for at least 22 of the last 24 hours. These blue wear indicators make it easy to check and see if our patients are wearing their aligners enough and allows parents to be sure their investment is being fully utilized as well as providing crucial assessment feedback that helps teens stay on track with treatment.

If you think your child would be a good fit for Invisalign® Teen, just schedule an appointment with us at our Upper East Side or TriBeCa office. Dr. Bronsky and our talented team will conduct an initial consultation to determine if your child is eligible to receive Invisalign® Teen treatment. In some cases, Invisalign® Teen may not be the ideal treatment, but the good news is that there are other treatment options available so they can achieve the healthy smile they deserve.

Just like traditional Invisalign aligners, Invisalign Teen aligners need to be worn optimally for at least 22 hours each day, including during sleep. They can be removed for eating and drinking, as well as whenever they become cumbersome during everyday life. This includes playing woodwind or brass instruments, sports that require mouthguards, photo opportunities like prom or homecoming, and job interviews. Just remember to put your Invisalign Teen aligners back in when you’re done!

Compared to traditional braces that can be damaged by hard or sticky foods, Invisalign® Teen aligners can be completely removed. Your teen will always be able to enjoy their favorite foods and drinks without restrictions. The aligners should be removed for eating or drinking anything, but drinking a plain glass of water is perfectly fine without removal. Be careful when drinking hot beverages as they can warp the plastic that the aligners are made from, and can make it so that they no longer fit over the teeth comfortably.

Teens were made to move! With removable clear aligners, they can continue to enjoy their favorite activities AND keep playing the sports they love – no timeouts needed.

Like any other retainer or removable alignment tray, you’ll need to clean your aligners daily while using Invisalign Teen. Just run them under lukewarm water while brushing them gently with a toothbrush to make sure they stay in great shape which means keeping them in their case.

Every smile is unique, which is why we create personalized treatment plans. This makes treatment time for Invisalign® Teen vary on a patient to patient basis and depends on how far the teeth need to move and how many sets of aligners will be necessary to achieve their best smile.

During the busy day of the average teen, an aligner or two may get lost or broken, which is why Invisalign® Teen treatment comes with replacement aligners. Just make sure to get the replacement as soon as possible so they can continue wearing their aligners 22 hours a day.

Deciding which orthodontic treatment is right for your family means weighing many factors about your child’s oral health. The best way to explore this option is by making an appointment for a consultation at Bronsky Orthodontics. Contact us during regular business hours, and we would be happy to answer any questions you may have as well as schedule an appointment with Dr. Bronsky or another doctor of our team!
